The Onyx Residence
Challenge
A 15,000-square-foot private residence carved into a steep hillside in Beverly Hills, requiring a 40-foot cantilever over an existing canyon without disturbing the native ecosystem below.
Approach
We designed a post-tensioned concrete core with steel outriggers, founded on micro-piles drilled 60 feet into bedrock. The construction sequence was choreographed to minimise tree removal, with each cantilever segment stressed incrementally to balance the load.
Result
The home achieved net-zero energy status, was featured in Architectural Digest's 2025 House of the Year feature, and the site's native oak woodland was fully preserved.
